A random thought I love about student teaching in a second grade class..

These children are intriguingly filled with wonder and genuine excitement over the smallest things. The extent to which they get amusement is amazing and uplifting.

Robin writes a number sideways by accident, realizes it, and laughs for a minute straight.

Half the class can’t control themselves from writing “shampoop” instead of the spelling word “shampoo” on their papers.

Emma asked whether erasers are edible.

Whenever we play a game that day officially becomes “the best day ever” to the kids. Riku spent the whole afternoon chanting “everyyything is awesome. everyyything is awesome.”.

Child,

This world is overwhelming. Both beautiful and terrifying. Everyday people who were once so soft slowly harden and turn stone cold.

Don’t let that happen. Don’t ever lose that life that fills your eyes.

I will be beside you, always. Even at the worst times.

Please don’t forget that.

tawnks:

the one thing that has stuck with me every day since my English teacher told me it in middle school is:

"When referring to someone, always say who they are before anything else about them, because being a person always comes first"

Instead of saying “the mentally ill man,” say “the man with a mental illness”

Putting someone’s characteristics (especially negative ones) before them is dehumanizing and rude. Don’t do it.
